WHY BOOK WITH US

Why book with us.

The rate is the same. The arrival isn't. You can book any five-star hotel in Bali yourself, at exactly the price we'd pay. What you can't book yourself is the room they move you to at check-in, the credit already sitting against your name, and the fact that somebody in that building knows you're coming and why.

WHAT COMES ATTACHED

What's already arranged before you walk in.

None of this costs you anything. It exists because Sven books through Fora — a Virtuoso member agency with preferred-partner status across the brands below — and the hotels treat those bookings differently to the ones that arrive through a search engine. No membership, no card, no fee: some agencies charge an annual membership for these benefits, and some cards charge for the privilege. Booking a hotel through us costs you nothing.

ROOM UPGRADE

Moved up at check-in, whenever the house allows it

RESORT CREDIT

Typically €100 or more against food, beverage and spa

BREAKFAST FOR TWO

Daily, included, at most properties on our list

EARLY IN, LATE OUT

The two hours at each end that change how a trip feels

WELCOME AMENITY

Chosen for you, rather than issued to you

PRIORITY ACCESS

Rooms found when the hotel is showing sold out

Benefits vary by property and season. Ask about a specific hotel and Sven will tell you exactly what's attached to it before you commit to anything.
ONE HOTEL, SPELLED OUT

What that list actually looks like on a real booking.

Here is one stay, with everything attached to it before you arrive. Ask about any other hotel and you'll get the same breakdown for that one, in writing.

Exactly what's attached varies by property and by season, which is why we won't print a single list and call it universal. Name the hotel you're circling and you'll have its real one the same day.

THE LIST, AND WHAT LIES BEYOND IT

Forty-three hotels written up. Not forty-three hotels to choose from.

Every property on this site has been slept in and written up in full, including what's wrong with it and who it doesn't suit. That is the list we can vouch for personally. It isn't the list we can book.

Through Fora, a Virtuoso member agency, Sven places reservations at effectively every five-star property on this island — with the same upgrade, resort credit and breakfast attached, at the hotel's own rate. The write-ups tell you what we think. The network decides where you can actually go.

So if the hotel you're circling isn't written up here, that isn't a no. It's a review we haven't published yet.

THE FILTER

Four things that decide it.

Whether it's a name you know or one you've never heard of, the standard behind it is identical. No paid placements, ever — the commission is the same wherever you stay, which is precisely why we can tell you when a hotel isn't right for you.

HOW IT WORKS

Four steps, and none of them cost you anything.

01

Send a message

WhatsApp or email. Tell us your dates, who's travelling, and any hotels you're already considering.

02

Get a proposal

A short, personal recommendation, not a stack of brochure links. Usually within a day.

03

We place the booking

Sven reserves your rooms through his Fora advisor account, which is what attaches the upgrade, the credit and the breakfast to your name before you arrive. You pay the hotel directly, at the hotel's own rate, on their terms. We don't hold your money — we handle the paperwork.

04

Travel with support

A direct line if anything needs adjusting once you're there. No call centre, no chatbot.

How we're paid. The hotel pays us a commission after you've stayed. It never comes out of your rate — you pay exactly what the hotel charges anyone else, which you are welcome to check. The rate varies a little between properties, but not by enough to be worth steering you somewhere that doesn't suit you: a week you enjoyed is worth more to us than a slightly better margin on one you didn't. That is also why we can afford to tell you when a hotel is wrong for you, and why nobody can buy a place on this site.
BEYOND THE ROOM

The rest of it, handled.

AROUND YOUR STAY
  • An itinerary built around what you actually want, not what's easy to sell
  • Restaurant recommendations — and the reservations that go with them
  • Drivers, transfers and activities coordinated before you land
THROUGHOUT YOUR TRIP
  • Changes made mid-trip, while you're still on the beach
  • Airport transfers arranged in advance
  • A direct line to Sven and Wayan throughout. No call centre, no chatbot, no ticket number

BEFORE YOU ASK

Questions people send first.

No. You pay the hotel's own published rate, directly to the hotel, on their terms. Sven is paid a standard commission by the property. That's the entire reason the benefits cost you nothing — you are not paying for them, the hotel is.

It varies by property and season, but typically: a room upgrade at check-in when the house allows it, a resort credit of around €100 or more against food, beverage and spa, daily breakfast for two, early check-in and late check-out where possible, a welcome amenity, and priority when a hotel shows as sold out. Ask about a specific hotel and you'll get the exact list for it before committing to anything.

You can, at exactly the same price. What a booking engine can't attach is the upgrade, the credit, the breakfast, a restaurant reservation someone made a phone call for, or a direct line to the two people who planned your trip when something needs changing on a Sunday evening.

No paid placements, ever. The commission is the same whether you stay at Amandari or the InterContinental, which is precisely why we can tell you when a hotel isn't right for you — and why the write-ups in the Journal mention the dated bathrooms and the kitchens to eat away from.

Sven books through Fora, which holds the Virtuoso membership — the network is joined at agency level rather than by individual advisors, so bookings placed through the account carry Virtuoso rates and amenities at participating properties. Alongside that sit the individual brand programmes: Aman, Four Seasons Preferred Partner, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Raffles and Capella among them. Which one applies depends on the hotel, and we'll tell you which before you book.

Effectively every five-star property in Bali. Because Sven books through Fora, a Virtuoso member agency, a reservation can be placed at any participating hotel on the island — at the hotel's own rate, with the upgrade, resort credit and breakfast attached. That includes the names you'd expect (Aman, Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Raffles, Capella), the properties fewer people know, and the one you've already been circling.

What the forty write-ups in the Journal represent is the standard, not the stock list. Those are the hotels Sven has slept in and taken apart in full, which is why he'll tell you honestly which of them is right for your trip. If your hotel isn't among them, we book it just the same — you simply get a straight answer rather than a published review.

Sometimes. If the reservation is still cancellable and refundable, it can often be rebooked through the advisor account at the same rate with the benefits attached. Send us the confirmation and Sven will tell you honestly whether it's worth doing.
